Iloilo City implements ban on livestock from ASF-affected areas

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 29 (PIA) – The Iloilo City Government has implemented a ban on the entry of livestock transport carriers and hog vans from areas affected by the African swine fever (ASF).

Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order No. 09, series of 2021, which bans the entry of transport carriers and hog vans from Luzon, Mindanao, Eastern Visayas provinces and other areas known to have ASF, as declared by the Department of Agriculture, to Iloilo City without the disinfection certificate, at the port of origin or port exit.

“This is to ensure that our hog industry will not be affected especially during this time where we try to revive our economy,” he said.

According to the EO, the transport carriers and hog vans must have disinfection certificate duly issued by the competent office or agency, such as the local government unit veterinarians, Bureau of Animal Industry, Veterinary Quarantine Services, and/or Bureau of Animal Industry Director.

Treñas said there is an urgent need to intensify preventive measures in order to protect the hog industry of Western Visayas from the possible threat of ASF and its economic effects.

It can be recalled that EO No. 027, series of 2020 was issued to ban the entry of livestock and its by-products originating from areas in Luzon, Region 11, and from countries with confirmed ASF cases. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
