Guv lauds local officials, Antiqueños in fight vs COVID

SAN JOSE, Antique, Jan. 8 (PIA) - - Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao lauded the cooperation and support of the local officials and all the Antiqueños in the fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19).

She said that Antique is one among the provinces in the country that fought a good fight against COVID.

She, however, did not claim the credit alone, but cited the unity and cooperation of the local officials, and the people of  Antique, with the strong support of the House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda.

During the radio program with PIA-Antique, Cadiao said that the local officials and the frontline workers are brave enough to facilitate the return of Antiqueños, both locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and working overseas, to the province amid the quarantine restrictions.

“Those who lost their jobs, students, marginal workers and those for some reasons were stranded in many parts of the country including overseas contract workers were allowed to go home to their families,” she said.

As the Governor, she is happy to note that despite the pandemic, Antiqueños remain resilient and cooperative to the guidelines and protocol issued by the inter-agency task force.

She also emphasized the strong partnership and collaboration of the Provincial Government and the office of  Legarda which was instrumental in bringing in various programs and services to the province.

“ There are programs that the governor or the Provincial Government can’t do alone but with the support of Congresswoman Legarda, we were able to access funding and support from various agencies and donors,” she said.

She added “I am very happy to have wonderful partners led by House Deputy Speaker Legarda, supportive local officials and cooperative Antiqueños.”

This pandemic gives us the lessons to unite and give our best for the province, Cadiao said.

She also cited the LGUs for their understanding that some of the projects scheduled for implementation in the different barangays were re-aligned to COVID response measures.

Likewise, the governor pointed out the gains earned by the province because of the unity of the people such as the regular flights of an airline from Antique-Manila even during the time of pandemic which also boosts the economy of the province.

The peace and order situation, which is so commendable with the successful anti-drug campaign leaving only two barangays left out of 590 which were already declared drug-free, was also noted .

“With this pandemic, we have seen the strength of the Antiqueños who are willing to make an extreme sacrifice to help those who are in
need,” Cadiao said. (PSM/PIA-Antique)
