TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 11 (PIA) - - As one measure to cushion the impact of the pandemic on unemployment, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) region 2 will hire more applicants for its Government Internship Program (GIP).

Regional Director Evelyn Ramos said the national government has allotted bigger fund for the GIP to accommodate m

ore applicants who are seeking for a job and have an experience in the government service.

The GIP aims to provide opportunities and engage young workers to serve general public in government agencies

or entities projects and programs at the national and local levels.

Ramos also said the program aims to provide young workers, particularly the poor/indigent and young workers, opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate objective of attracting the best and the brightest who want to pursue a career in government service.

Though it is a non-permanent item, Ramos said that an employee under GIP may be absorbed by the agency where she or he is assigned, especially if there are available items that are suited to their skills and educational background.

"This is one of our interventions to help those who lost their jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as us to provide avenue for the new graduates to get experience as stepping stone to government service," Ramos said.

She added that they are also negotiating with some business players to help provide employment to the unemployed individuals, especially that the economy is slowly improving.

On the other hand, DOLE 2 also strengthened its livelihood development programs for the other individuals who were affected by the pandemic. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
