DOH 4A opens community isolation facility in Malvar

CALAMBA CITY, Jan. 20 (PIA) - In a bid to improve healthcare services in the region, the Department of Health (DOH) - CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) led the formal opening of the Community Isolation Unit (CIU) for COVID-19 patients in Barangay Poblacion in Malvar, Batangas last January 19.

Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo said that the CIUs managed by the local government will house COVID-19 patients and help decongest hospitals, allowing other healthcare facilities to accommodate non-COVID patients in need of medical attention.

“Napakaganda at napakaimportante na magkaroon tayo ng mga community isolation unit na fully-equipped para sa ating mga pasyente ng COVID-19," Janairo said.

“These CIUs will decongest our main hospitals and will allow them to resume their normal operations, upang makatanggap pa ng ibang mga pasyente dahil yung ibang hospital na natin ay puno na, and also to provide a safe facility for non-COVID patients,” the regional health chief added.

Designed as a well ventilated, eight -bed facility, the construction of the Malvar CIU began on November 7 last year with a total cost of P1.2-M and with the support of the Health Futures Foundation Incorporated. The facility will be managed by the local government with manpower support from the DOH-CALABARZON.

The Malvar Community Isolation Unit is the 12th quarantine facility constructed with the support of Health Futures Foundation Incorpoated and Unity in Isolation, a group of private companies and individuals who pooled their resources to help build quarantine facilities for hospitals and local government units amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of January 19, the Municipality of Malvar has recorded a total of four (4) active cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 518,  with 498 recoveries and 11 deaths. (PB/DOH 4-A)
