DILG holds capacity building program for barangays

BACOLOD CITY, Jan. 11 (PIA)-- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)  here recently conducted a two-day Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Development (CUCPD) activity to five barangays in the city.

Program Director May Theresa Malungayon of the DILG said these barangays include Handumanan, Vista Alegre, Granada and Alangilan which were categorized as Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) threatened communities by the  National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

The NTF-ELCAC declared Barangay Banago as CTG cleared community.    .

She said more than 65 participants attended the activity who were given orientation on the intentions of CUCPD for highly urbanized cities as well as the goals of  ELCAC.

A workshop was held on Barangay Development Plan (BDP) prioritization and identification of their Program, Projects and Activities (PPA) related to the implementation of ELCAC to answer the problem on peace and order, Malungayon said.

Their output will be submitted to the DILG for consolidation that will hopefully be implemented this year, she added.

The threatened barangays are entitled to at receive least a P1-million worth of projects while a cleared one will get P20 million aimed at alleviating poverty and spur economic growth in their area.

“The government is working hard to implement Executive Order 70 that institutionalizes the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace. All National Government Agencies (NGAs) are converging their efforts to ensure the delivery of basic services to barangays threatened or affected by the armed conflict so they can be reached by government service,” Malanguyon said. (JSC/Lljr/PIA6 Negros Occidental)
