DILG-7 Information Officer Michael Vencynth Braga giving updates on the arrival and departure of LSIs in Central Visayas during the radio program "Kasayuran"

CEBU CITY, Jan. 29 (PIA) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region 7 have noted a decrease in the number of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) or returning residents in Central Visayas.

DILG-7 Information Officer Michael Vencynth Braga, in an interview during the “Kasayuran” radio program aired over DYAR Sonshine Radio, revealed that from May to August 2020, they recorded around 20,000 LSIs both inbound and outbound daily in the region.

Starting October 2020, this went down to 5,000 LSIs daily both inbound and outbound in Central Visayas.

To date, DILG-7 recorded a total of 44,005 inbound LSIs and 121, 372 outbound LSIs in the region.

He explained also that LSIs are now referred to as returning residents since they can go home or go back to their respective residents or point of origin due to the availability of various modes of transportation.

Meanwhile, DILG-7 encouraged the returning residents and travelers to secure all the required documents such as the medical certificate and travel authority and to coordinate with the local government units of their destination for other additional requirements.

DILG-7 continues to assist and facilitate the returning residents or travelers through their help desks manned by the members of the Regional Task force for the additional documents required by the LGUs upon their entry.

The help desks are located at the airport and seaports. (hfg/PIA7)
