Cities in Region 2 have community transmission - DOH

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Jan. 6 (PIA) - - All of the four cities of Cagayan Valley region have ongoing community transmission of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department Health (DOH) region 2 said.

Dr. Rio L. Magpantay, regional director, said the cities of Santiago, Cauayan and Ilagan in Isabela province, and Tuguegarao City in Cagayan including Solano town of Nueva Vizcaya province are on guard by their respective inter-agency task forces as community transmission still persist.

He also said the municipalities of Baggao and Solana of Cagayan, and San Mariano, Tumauini and Luna of Isabela have ongoing local transmissions while a local transmission in the workplace was also recorded at the Local Government Unit of Tumauini, Isabela, and local transmission in enclosed facilities was also recorded at the Pulisya ti Umili- Don Domingo this city and at the Solana Police Station this province.

"The LGUs and agencies concerned should contain cases immediately by isolating suspects, probable and confirmed cases and by quarantining close contacts," Magpantay said.

He also added that the agencies and local offices concerned should intensify coordination with the health care providers network and the barangay health emergency response teams for continuity of services and monitoring of cases.

"We still advocate for the strict implementation of the no home quarantine policy and to establish more community isolation units to cater to mild and asymptomatic cases," Magpantay stated.

As of now, there were already 5, 419 confirmed cases in region 2 in which 4, 894 have already recovered while there were still 435 active cases and there were already 87 deaths in the region. 

The director also said the region has incurred 8.1 percent positivity rate which is still within the alarming level.

"We need to lower our positivity rate by at least less than 5 percent. We need your cooperation and support to achieve this goal," he added.

He also stated that there is no approve COVID-19 vaccine yet in the country but it maybe available within the first quarter of this year.
