Biliran electric coop constructs 2nd floor of main office building

NAVAL, Biliran, January 20 (PIA) -- Construction is set to start by February this year of the second floor of the main office building of Biliran Electric Cooperative Inc. (BILECO), after almost three years of preparations for the proposed construction.

"Probably, the construction of the second floor of the main office building will start by February, this year," said Engr. Gerardo N. Oledan, BILECO General Manager in an interview at his office.

Oledan said it is high time to construct the second floor of the main office building to prevent the damage of the existing concrete slab and several standing unfinished concrete posts.

The fund for its construction is sourced though a loan from a commercial bank in the amount of P5M as per approved BILECO Board Resolution No. 11 dated February 2, 2018.

As per opening of bids of the electric cooperative's Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) on January 5, 2021 for the supply and delivery of construction materials, the lone participating bidder offered a total bid amount of P5,419,782 with a variance of P15,000 from the approved increased budget in the total amount of P5,434,782 as per Board Resolution No. 199 dated November 21, 2020.

Allan Joseph Borrinaga, Institutional Services Department (ISD) Manager, who was also present in the interview, added that the construction of the second floor of the main building will help decongest the crowded offices at the ground floor.

"The second floor will also serve as a multi-purpose venue," Borrinaga further said adding that a big portion of it is open venue but with roofing.

Seminars, conferences, trainings, meetings and other activities of the electric cooperative will be held in the open space of the second floor once it is already finished and ready for occupancy, the ISD Manager said.

GM Oledan also added that other government offices can hold meetings, conferences, and similar activities at the second floor.

The construction is expected to be finished by May as the contract period is within 120 days only. (ldl/rsv/PIA Biliran)
