BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 28 (PIA) - - The Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) assures that COVID – 19 case management in the facility is under control,  but  appeals to the public to stay healthy, remain vigilant and continuously protect themselves by strictly adhering to the basic minimum health standards.

BGHMC Public Health Unit head Dr. Leamor Fangonilo, in a kapihan forum here, reported   that from March 1, 2020 up to January 27 this year,   about 1,022 COVID – 19 cases  were admitted at the BGHMC where 843 recovered, 72 died and 107 are currently admitted. BGHMC  has  200 beds allocated for COVID –19 patients  and while utilization is going up as high as 80 percent, Fangonilo said  they are continuously working to increase the bed capacity and contingency plan is in place.

Amid the rising   cases of  COVID – 19 being admitted in hospitals and with the increasing cases of deaths especially among elderly and those with co – morbidities, Fangonilo  advises  the public to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the minimum health standards to protect themselves and their families.

For the BGHMC Molecular Biology Laboratory, Fangonilo reported  that it is back in full operation with adequate resources and manpower.

The laboratory operates on three machines with maximum capacity of 1,000 tests per day with a Turn – Around – Time (TAT) of 24 – 48 hours.  From January to 1 to 26, there are already 28,420 tests done where 93.24 percent or 26,482 are from Cordillera and the rest are from region 1, Fangonilo added.

Meanwhile, Ashley Melecio of BGHMC said that  with the increasing admission of COVID – 19 cases in the hospital,  it is  currently  admitting  patients  for emergency cases only. The facility is  doing  teleconsultation  services  so that patients may  be provided with diagnostic or therapeutic advice  without going to the hospital.

Melecio also advises the public to regularly monitor their fb page “Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center” advisories and instructions for their  tele-consultation/

She also encourages the public to learn the right information about the COVID – 19 vaccines, especially on its importance in the prevention of community transmission. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
