Tangub City opens Christmas village 2020

TANGUB CITY, Misamis Occidental, Dec.1 (PIA)—The City Government of Tangub kicked off its 28th Christmas Symbols Festival 2020 with the theme, “Christmas Village.”

The activity targets to showcase Tangub’s creativity, ingenuity, mastering of the art of lights, and Tangubanons unbeatable spirit of volunteerism.

This beautiful village aims to comfort those who are longing to move around, meet and greet people especially this season, Committee on Tourism, Chair Beatriz Florida said.

She added that the village is not hard to create since Tangubanons are fond of sharing their resources and volunteering their time.

“The year 2020 was confronted with an outbreak that fronted all human beings to ratify the way of life. We are no exception. We need to cope with the call of times and once again, Tagubanons take the center stage by showing to the community and to the world that we care, we share, we volunteer,” she said.

Florida said they care for all the avid patrons of the Christmas symbols festival Thus they never fail to offer their unique celebration of Christmas through the Christmas village.

For her part, Mayor Jennifer Wee Tan said, “We hope that you will like the Tangubanons' way of giving their gifts to all of you. It may not be grand. It’s just simple but I hope that you will love it. Of course, as you come here in Tangub and celebrate the Christmas festival, please observe health protocols."

This village will provide an opportunity for families to unwind, dine or just feel fine amid the pandemic. "After all, the greatest gratification is to see the happy faces of the families experiencing Christmas in Tangub," the mayor added.

Also, the village targets to aid the business sector that is greatly affected with the implementation of community quarantine through allowing product display around the village.

Visitors and locals will be greeted by the lighted arches along the highway and interior barangays. Lanterns will still be displayed at St. Michael Parish. Houses and establishments will also be lighted to add beauty throughout the city, the mayor added.

"The city will also abide by the health protocols sanctioned by the health experts for the guest safety and the village is open to guests within Misamis Occidental only," Tan said.

The opening of the Christmas village was highlighted with singing and dancing of the sinanduloy cultural troupe.

For 28 years, Tangub has held the traditional and customary ceremonial opening of the renowned Christmas symbols festival of the Philippines every December 1. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
