Stakeholders emphasize great value of donating blood

LABANGAN, Zamboanga del Sur, Dec 17 (PIA) - To help soldiers and their dependents and other people in need of blood, the Army Artillery Regiment (AAR) recently conducted a nationwide synchronized bloodletting activity dubbed ‘Sundalong Bayani, Alay ay Dugo para sa Kapwa Pilipino’.

LtCol. Archie Ares, the commanding officer of the 1st Field Artillery Battalion, AAR said that all the Field Artillery Battalion (FAB) and 9th field Artillery Battalion in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao have participated in this nationwide bloodletting activity.

"The bloodletting activity organized by AAR aims to help our brothers and sisters in the province during emergencies especially people who are seriously injured and the women who gave birth and in need of blood," Ares said.

Up to 80 bags of blood were voluntarily donated by various stakeholders in the bloodletting activity conducted by the 1st Field Artillery (Beat Em), Army Artillery Regiment of Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Pulacan and the 53rd Infantry (Matapat) Battalion , Philippine Army in Guipos town.

Capt. Amirudin Guimbalanan, 1FAB intelligence officer said that when their national headquarters announced the synchronized nationwide bloodletting activity, he did not hesitate to voluntarily donate his blood.

“I donated blood to help our fellow soldiers and their dependents who are need it. I believe that with every blood we can give to people in need, it will greatly help them to prolong their lives,” said Guimbalanan, who is a regular blood donor of 1FAB.

Christian Dagatan, a resident of Aloran, Misamis Occidental also did not hesitate to donate his blood.

“Since it’s my first time to undergo blood transfusion, I could not help but feel nervous. But because of this laudable program sponsored by AAR, I don’t care about it, instead I support it to help my neighbor,” Dagatan an SCAA applicant said in vernacular.

The blood collected was donated by 1FAB to Margosatubig Regional Hospital for its preservation.

Ares also thanked donors and blood stakeholders such as 1st Cavalry Squadron, Station Hospital of the 1st Infantry (Sword) Division, Rotary Club of Pagadian, the Junior Chambers International (JCI) and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters ng Pilipinas (KBP) for making the event a success.
