‘Promote and use gender-fair language’ – Dir. Role

SAN FERNANDO CITY, December 13 (PIA) – “We want to help raise awareness in addressing gender stereotyping and imbalanced representation of women and likewise promote the use of gender fair language as part of gender mainstreaming.”

According to Director Jennilyne Role of Philippine Information Agency – 1, the dissemination of the gender-fair language included in the Gender-Fair Media Guidebook is not only for members of the media who are in news and entertainment writing as well as on film and TV production.

It is also for those in the government to incorporate the use of gender-fair language in their day-to-day communication.

RD Jennilyne Role encourages CHR-RO 1 employees to use the gender-fair and non-sexist terms not only in the discharge of their work but also in everyday communication. (JDS)

"We need to be sensitive in the choice of our words especially if there are appropriate or more acceptable words to use attuned in our times in order not to hurt other people, especially the vulnerable sectors," Role added.

Role was invited by the Commission on Human Rights -1 to discuss the Gender-Fair Language before their employees as part of their internal activity for the observance of the National Human Rights Consciousness Week (NHRCW) and the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women.

This year’s theme is “Karapatan at Pagbangon sa Lahat ng Panahon: recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights.”

Apart from their internal activity, they also conducted a lecture-orientation on Human Rights before the Philippine National Police Human Rights Affairs Office as part of the NHRCW.  (JCR/AMB/JDS PIA La Union)
