Joint committee meeting reaffirms PH-ROK defense logistics relations

PASIG CITY, Dec. 16 (PIA) -- The 23rd Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation between the Republic of the Philippines and Republic of Korea (RP-ROK) held recently via videoconference has strengthened bilateral relations in the areas of logistics and defense industries.

The JCMs are conducted pursuant to the 1994 RP-ROK Memorandum of Understanding on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation, and are intended to uphold bilateral defense logistics cooperation, as well as promote the mutual interests of the Philippines and South Korea and are considered one of the most active bilateral activities being conducted by the Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with their foreign counterparts.

The Philippine delegation was headed by the DND Assistant Secretary for Logistics, Acquisitions and Self-Reliant Defense Posture Jesus Rey R. Avilla. Meanwhile, the South Korean delegation was represented by Vice Minister Seo Hyeung-Jin of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.

South Korea’s security policy on Defense Science and Technology, the Philippine Navy’s Corvette Acquisition Program, and improvements to the FA-50PH aircraft of the Philippine Air Force were also discussed in the 23rd JCM.

During the event, Avilla honored Captain Armil M Angeles PN (GSC) with a Plaque of Appreciation for his invaluable contributions to the Defense Acquisition System, the AFP Modernization Program, and to the JCMs conducted during his incumbency as the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché in South Korea.
