DOLE awards more aid to Pangasinense workers

SAN CARLOS CITY, Dec. 15 (PIA) - Some 3,606  informal sector workers and overseas Filipino workers in Pangasinan were the latest beneficiaries  of various financial, emergency employment and livelihood program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello personally led the awarding of assistance to beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program (TUPAD), DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program and About Kamay ang Pagtulong  (AKAP) program in separate awarding ceremonies held in Pangasinan recently.

Secretary Bello, in his message,  vowed the Department’s continuous assistance to workers wherever they may be in the country.

After their short-term work under the DOLE emergency employment program, some 847 TUPAD beneficiaries  received their wages in San Carlos City; another 677  from the towns of Balungao, San Quintin and Tayug; and some 1,498 from Binalonan.

For Umingan town, 496 beneficiaries received their salaries while 72 residents were awarded with livelihood assistance worth Php 1.4 million.

Some 16 residents of  San Carlos City and Rosales town received Php 10,000 each from the AKAP program.

In Dagupan City, DOLE in the Ilocos Regional Director Nathaniel Lacambra led the awarding of Php 1.2-million assistance to 220 informal sector workers in the city.

“Aside from the wages, all beneficiaries were provided with personal protective equipment, group personal accident insurance and Occupational Safety  and Health orientation through the distribution of leaflets,” Lacambra told the Philippine Information Agency.

Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary Anthony Gerard Gonzales of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for  the Visayas said during the Laging Handa Network Briefing News program that the freebies distribution is among the activities to celebrate the 87th DOLE Founding Anniversary.

“Ang DOLE namigay ng tulong sa mga retrenched workers by referring them to companies in need of additional workforce. Ang iba underwent trainings para magkaroon ng new sets of skills kagaya ng pastry making conducted through the PESO and TESDA,” Asec. Gonzales said during the Network Briefing.

DOLE’s anniversary this year is anchored on the theme, “Bayanihang Pagtugon sa Hamon ng Bagong Panahon.” (JCR/AMB/VHS/PIA Pangasinan)
