DENR gives P35.9M agro forestry support projects to NV

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Dec. 18(PIA) - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here recently turned over P35.9 million - worth of Agroforestry Support Facilities (ASF) to the local government units (LGUs) and people’s organizations (POs) in this province.

Edgar Martin, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer, said the ASFs are support projects for their Sustainable Forest Management Program.

These include the watershed rehabilitation project implemented by the DENR under a loan agreement between the Philippine government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Carolotan Access Road with Reinforced Concrete Deck Girder Bridge and Reinforced Concrete Box Culvert built in Barangay Carolotan and the 1.52 kilometer Lazar-Kalinga Access Road in barangay Palabotan, all from Dupax del Sur town.

The DENR also turned-over the Mapayao-Binalian Forestland Management - Binalian Pathway project recenty, Martin said.

"These projects will ensure the reforestation, agroforestry, fuelwood and coffee plantations established by the Private Organization beneficiaries," he said.

Martin added that these projects will also improve the socio-economic condition of upland communities as their produce will be easily transported from the farm to the market, and will facilitate the delivery of basic necessities and social services.

He further said that a total of 29 infrastructure projects were completed and turned over to the LGUs and partner POs in the towns of Ambaguio, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur, Kayapa and Kasibu while 6 more ASFs will be constructed next year.# Benjamin Moses M. Ebreo/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya
