Congressman Leachon conducts Christmas Caravan in the first district of OrMin

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Dec. 16 (PIA) -- Senior Deputy Speaker and Congressman Paulino Salvador C. Leachon conducted recently series of Christmas Caravan in the First District of Oriental Mindoro.

Part of these series of caravan is the annual gift-giving and awarding of infrastructure projects in the first district of Oriental Mindoro comprising seven municipalities and one city, namely: Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, Baco, Naujan, Victoria, Socorro, Pola and Calapan City.

In Calapan City, the ‘Pamaskong Handog 2020’ includes the gift-giving activities for the beneficiaries of the congressionally-funded ‘Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers’ (TUPAD) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). 

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

Aside from the beneficiaries of TUPAD, the Office of the Congressman also provided cash incentives to Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Daycare Workers, Barangay Police and cash allowances to all college scholars funded by the congress.  In addition to this, the Person with Disabilities (PWDs) also received wheelchairs for their use.

Livelihood projects were provided to individuals who lost their job due to COVID-19 pandemic.  Raffle draws were also done with major prizes like single motorcycle, rice, refrigerator, television set and washing machine.

The municipality of Puerto Galera through Mayor Rocky Ilagan and Vice Mayor Marlon Lopez was awarded infrastructure project amounting to P237 million while the municipality of San Teodoro was awarded infra project amounting to P98 million.

The municipality of Pola was awarded infra projects worth P216 million where certificates of which were received by Mayor Jennifer Cruz and concerned barangay captains of said town.

In the town of Victoria, certificates of projects worth P379 million were received by Vice Mayor Marlo Nuarin, Sangguniang Bayan members and also the concerned barangay captains.

Congressman Leachon assured that by year 2021, all the 261 barangays in the First District would have been provided with projects of their request.  (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
