35 inmates benefit from TESDA’s training for work scholarship program

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Dec. 16 (PIA) -- Some 35 inmates or people deprived of liberty (PDL) from Laoang Sub-Provincial Jail received training allowance as part of the scholarship benefits under the Training for Work Scholarship Program - Special Skills Training Program (SSTP) of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

This was learned from Mr. Jonel Jolejole of TESDA-Las Navas Agro Industrial School (LNAIS).

“This is in response to the mandate of TESDA of expanding its services to various communities, train the people and the communities for them to acquire skills and be a productive citizens,” said TESDA OIC Ma. Asuncion Sumoray.

The 35 inmates went through skills training on bread and pastry production, support to Horticultural Crop work, support Horticultural Nursery work which will led to Agricultural Crop Production.

This was made possible through the collaboration of Las Navas Agro Industrial School, Laoang Sub-Provincial Jail and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

During the event, Laoang inmates expressed their gratitude to TESDA particularly to Secretary Isidro S. Lapeña, Regional Director Dante J. Navarro, and OIC Ms. Ma. Asuncion Sumoray for the training opportunity extended to them even they are behind bars, said Jolejole.

They likewise extended special thanks to TESDA-LNAIS Vocational School Administrator Ms. Yolanda Pajenado as service provider for the special skills training for the inmates. (ldl/AND/PIA-N. Samar)
