CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Nov. 15 (PIA) -- The province of Oriental Mindoro is celebrating its 70th Founding Anniversary today.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Pitong Dekada ng Bayanihan Tungo sa Matatag na Lalawigan.”

Mindoro was proclaimed a special province in November 1902 until it became a regular province through Republic Act No. 2964 on February 20, 1921.  On June 13, 1950, the Mindoro province was separated into Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.  Thus, the provinces (Oriental and Occidental) both celebrate its 70th Founding Day on Nov. 15.

Prior to the celebration of the province’s anniversary, the provincial government of Oriental Mindoro had already started to launch its celebration in the town of Gloria where services of the government were directly brought to the community, by means of giving incentives to local health workers particularly the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), Day Care Workers, and even senior citizens.

Schools supplies, equipment and gadgets were also given to local school board and senior high school students by the local government.

Same were given to other municipalities, namely Naujan, Pola, Baco, Mansalay, Roxas and Calapan City where said services were equally provided to recipients of the municipalities/city.

The remaining eight municipalities will also be visited by Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor to provide them with the same services, however there were delays in schedule due to series of typhoons that hit the province in the past weeks.

A ‘Misa ng Sambayanang Mindoreno’ will be held in the morning at Sto. Nino Cathedral where limited number of attendees are allowed to join due to observance of health protocols.  Right after the Holy Mass, a groundbreaking ceremony/capsule laying ceremony will also be held at the proposed Oriental Mindoro Heritage Museum located at the Old Capitol Site, Brgy. Ibaba East, Calapan City.

A culminating event “Balik Pasasalamat sa mga Manggagawang Dakila” will be held at noon at the Provincial Capitol, where virtual raffle draws will be held at the Provincial Capitol for the employees as part of the celebration.

The celebration of the 70th Founding Anniversary of Oriental Mindoro is focused mainly on the services given by the local government to people in the community, which goes with this year’s theme of ‘Bayanihan.’ (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
