LTFRB 8 chief assures safety of passengers of new PUBs vs Covid-19

NAVAL, Biliran, Nov. 18 (PIA ) -- The top official of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Region 8 has assured the safety of the passengers of the new and modern Public Utility Buses, the Visayas Bus Liners, from Covid-19 virus.

In a press conference held during the launching of the buses, LTFRB 8 Regional Director Gualberto Gualberto informed the local media in Biliran Province of the preventive measures that were put in place to assure the safety of the public commuters.

“Secured po sila,” Gualberto told local media including the attendees of the launching, adding that before the buses left, there is a manifesto signed by the passengers and forwarded to the receiving end.

He added that passengers will also follow health protocols such as use of alcohol, taking of their body temperature with the use of a thermal scanner. Passengers found to have more than the normal temperature will not be allowed to ride.

The newly launched modern buses of the Visayas Liner will implement an automatic collection system with the use of a card in paying fare instead of giving cash for implementation before the start of its operations, Gualberto added.

The LTFRB chief said that the use of cash as fare is one of the sources of transmission of Covid-19 virus.

So far, there is only one reported positive Covid-19 case in the public transport in the region and that involved of a driver of a van plying to Naval.

“We will still monitor, and I think the provincial government will also screen those who goes in, those who goes out, para po makasegurado din po na kahit meron pumapasok dito, safe pa rin po tayo”, Naval Mayor Gerard Roger M. Espina said during the press conference.

The launching of the modern PUBs was held on November 13 at the Provincial Capitol Compound in Naval, Biliran.

Some three buses of the Visayas Liner will serve the Tacloban-Naval, Naval-Tacloban routes and are expected to start operations late this month of November or early part of December this year. (ldl/rsv/PIA-Biliran)
