Ilocos police, church, community tie up for internal cleansing

SAN FERNANDO City, Nov. 18 (PIA) -- The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1), together with the city government of San Fernando, had recently launched the Project KASIMBAYANAN or the “Kapulisan, Simbahan at Pamayanan”.

Project KASIMBAYANAN is part of the holistic approach of the internal cleansing strategy of the PRO-1 for its police personnel.

Regional Director Rodolfo Azurin Jr. recognizes the role of the church and the community stakeholders in bringing spiritual enhancements and ethical development to the men and women of the police circle.

“We need to engage the community to help in the transformation of our police.  We call for the stakeholders to help our police," Azurin said.

The regional director said the PRO1 has organized a team composed of church leaders to serve as the police' support group to help its personnel in the internal cleansing programs particularly through squad weekly interactive meetings.

He added: “We are all but human. We are no saints. We can resist temptation, but there are times that we actually give in. That is why we need you and the church to remind us to reinvigorate our innate goodness. No man is born evil for man by nature is good.”

This project is also believed to strengthen the partnership of the community and the church with the police that would surely bring harmony, peace, order, and progress in the region.

“This activity also pushed through to strengthen the partnership of the PRO-1, the local government units and its component barangays, and the community in pursuit of unifying, in bringing peace and security all throughout the Ilocos Region, specifically in the province of La Union and the city of San Fernando,” he said.

The signing of a memorandum of agreement between the PRO-1 and the city government took place on Nov. 5 at Barangay Poro here to establish a sustainable partnership.

Azurin explained, “Ang mga regional head, we only come and go, so we wanted to make this project sustainable kaya may MOA. Kahit mapalit ng liderato ay tuluy-tuloy ang programa.”

Further, the PRO-1 team is roaming around the entire Ilocos to cascade information about the project. (JCR/JPD/CGRC, PIA La Union)
