City gov’t notes downtrend in COVID cases

ILOILO CITY, Nov. 5 (PIA) – The Iloilo City Government said that cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in this city are on a "downward trend" in the past few days.

Iloilo City mayor Jerry Treñas said that the city recorded only a total of nine (9) cases on November 3, 2020.

“We are hoping that our cases will continue to go down,” he said, adding that 92.50 percent of COVID-19 patients in the city have recovered from the disease.

He said that the demographics showed that those included in the 21-30 age group have the most cases because they are more active while 3,590 recovered out of 3,899 total cases, as of Nov. 2, 2020.

“We have been testing our residents, symptomatic or not, which meant that our isolation measures have been successful because of the decrease in numbers,” he said.

Treñas said that they have invited the chiefs of police of the different districts to determine the areas to focus on and help avert the transmission of the virus.

“We will continue to strengthen our protocols to avoid further transmission,” he said.

He added that they have called a meeting with barangays with high number of cases to ensure that safety measures are followed and needs are provided. (JSC/LTP/PIA6 Iloilo)
