43 PhilHealth senior officials resign, retire from posts

CALOOCAN CITY, Oct. 11 (PIA) -- At least 43 senior officers of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) have resigned and retired from their positions amid allegations of a P15-billion corruption case in the agency.

In a report by PTV-4 Rise and Shine Pilipinas over the weekend, the resignation followed an earlier directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and PhilHealth CEO Dante Gierran for officials with a salary grade of 26 and above to file a courtesy resignation and give way for the agency’s internal cleansing.

According to PhilHealth, 27 officials have resigned, six of whom are from its regional offices and 21 are from the central office. 16 officials have retired, 10 of whom are from the central office and 6 are from its regional offices

The national health insurance provider is currently under fire for allegations of corruption.

Duterte, in a televised public address earlier, vowed to go after corrupt PhilHealth officials saying he would spend his two remaining years in office eliminating corruption at the state-run insurance corporation.

The President said he himself would endorse the cases to be filed against corrupt PhilHealth officials, stressing he would affix his signature in endorsing cases against them. (PIA NCR)
